Ways to be involved in your local Government

Richland Township is always looking for people who wish to be involved. Currently we are looking for people to serve in the following roles:

Zoning Board of Appeals member.
The Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) serves a very important service for our community. The board listens to and votes on Zoning Ordinance Interpretations and Variance Requests. The ZBA meets as needed on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 5:30 PM. Qualifications for this role are must be 18 years old or older, must be registered to vote and must live in Richland Township. The Township is willing to pay for training, so you can learn as you serve. Board member receive pay for each meeting they attend.

Election Poll Workers
In 2020 there could be as many as four elections in Richland Township. Each election takes 20-30 Election Inspectors (Poll Workers). Currently we need 15 more poll workers. Poll Workers are required to be citizens of the State of Michigan, 18 years old or older, and be registered to vote. Poll workers currently receive $160 per day and are paid for training as well. The dates of the 2020 Elections are as follows:
March 10, 2020 – Presidential Primary
May 5, 2020 – Possible Date (No Election currently scheduled for Richland Township)
August 4, 2020 – State Primary Election
November 3, 2020 - General Election

Fire Fighter/Medical First Responders
The Richland Township Fire Department currently has two openings. Training is provided and anyone who lives in the Township that is at least 18 years old are welcome to apply.

The Kalamazoo County Health & Community Services Department wants residents and healthcare providers to be aware of an increasing number of confirmed and probable Lyme disease cases in Kalamazoo County. Currently, Lyme disease cases are five times higher than they were five years ago.

Kalamazoo, MI – One symptomatic employee who works for the Grifols BioMat USA, has tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The health department advises people who were at the plasma center located at 167 E. Kalamazoo Avenue on the following dates June 27, 28, and 29, and July 3, 6, 8, and 9 to monitor themselves daily for symptoms of the respiratory disease and seek testing from their healthcare provider.

Older Adults Get Access to the USDA Farmers to Families Food Box Program

Kalamazoo, MI – Kalamazoo County Health & Community Services Department’s Area Agency on Aging (AAA) IIIA has joined forces with Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes to streamline distribution of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farmers to Families Food Box Program. On May 8, the USDA approved contracts across the country for the program, which allows local farmers and suppliers to coordinate boxes of fruits, vegetables, and dairy with food banks and Area Agency on Aging across the state. AAA IIIA will receive the first delivery this week.

2020 Water System Flushing Program

Attached is a map showing the City's revised 2020 Water System Flushing Schedule, which will begin on June 14, 2020 and continue through June 23, 2020.  Flushing will take place during evening hours of 10:00 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. and daytime hours of 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

I-94 Expansion in Kalamazoo

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will begin construction on Monday, May 18, to prepare a 2.8-mile section of I-94 between Lovers Lane and Sprinkle Road in Kalamazoo to be widened from two lanes to three lanes in each direction.
