Zoning Board of Appeals:  Richland Township currently has an opening on the Zoning Board of Appeals Board.  The ZBA is a 5 member Board with an alternate.  A Zoning Board of Appeals hears appeals, evaluates requests for interpretations and approves or denies dimensional and use variances, reviews and interprets Township Zoning Ordinances, reviews findings of facts, reviews applications, etc. ZBA must apply facts to standards and make determinations on those standards.    The majority of cases before the ZBA are variances.   Meetings are held on an as needed basis and are generally held on the 4th Wednesday of the Month starting at 5:30pm.

Board of Review:  Richland Township currently has an opening on the Board of Review.  The BOR meets in March, July and December.  March is a 2 day commitment in which the Board listens to resident protests and to correct the assessments/valuations of property. July and December Board of Review dates are to correct errors or mutual mistake of fact. Time commitment is minimal for July and December.

KALAMAZOO, MI – Kalamazoo County Health & Community Services Department reports that Kalamazoo County COVID-19 cases are trending upward. Health officials ask all residents to do their part to stop the spread of COVID-19 by adhering to public health guidance. The most effective public health recommendations continue to be wearing a face covering or mask, maintaining six feet from others, avoiding social gatherings, and washing hands frequently. Crowded, indoor gatherings are particularly high risk.

The General election is Tuesday, November 3, 2020.   Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. for those voters wishing to vote in person.    Voters are asked to mask up and practice social distancing.  Precincts are equipped with hand sanitizer, voting stations that adhere to social distancing guidelines, sanitized voting stations and equipment, in addition to workers wearing personal protection aids.

As of March 10 at 12:00 pm, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported 647 cases of COVID-19 from 36 states (includes District of Columbia), with a total of 25 deaths.  Eighty-three of these cases are travel-related, 36 are believed to be person-to-person spread; and for the remaining 528 the source of exposure is still under investigation.

At noon on Wednesday, March 4, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported 80 cases of COVID-19 from 13 states, with a total of nine deaths.  There are no confirmed cases of novel coronavirus reported in the State of Michigan and no persons under investigation in Kalamazoo County.

The Michigan Department of Transportation released its latest five-year transportation plan on Thursday, outlining which projects are now on tap after the State Transportation Commission authorized an additional $3.5 billion in bonding to do more projects at Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's direction.
