Homeowners urged to be cautious of real estate company offering fast cash

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo County and St. Joseph County Clerks and Register of Deeds, Meredith Place and Lindsay Oswald, are urging homeowners to be aware of MV Realty’s Homeowner Benefit Program that tempts homeowners with an upfront cash payment in exchange for the exclusive right of MV Realty to act as the listing agent for any sale of the property during the term of the agreement, which has the potential to last 40 years. According to MV Realty’s website, those homeowners who decide to sell must do so with MV Realty at a six percent commission, and if not, they face a stiff financial penalty equal to 3 percent of the home’s market value.

 Please take notice that the Richland Township Board will hold a budget public hearing on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at 7:00 PM at the Richland Township Hall, 7401 North 32nd Street, Richland, Michigan. Please check our website at for updates to this notice.

At such time, budgets covering estimated revenues and proposed expenditures of the Township for fiscal year 2023-2024 will be submitted for consideration.  Copies of the budget will be available at the Township Offices, 7401 North 32nd Street, Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

The property tax millage rate proposed to be levied to support the proposed budget will be a subject of this hearing.

Richland Township will provide necessary reasonable auxiliary aids and services, such as signers for the hearing impaired and audiotapes of printed material being considered at the hearing, to individuals with disabilities upon seven (7) days’ notice to the Richland Township Clerk.  Individuals with disabilities requiring auxiliary aids or services should contact the Richland Township Clerk at the Township Hall, 629-4921.

The Richland Township Board of Review for March 2023 will be held in-person at the Richland Township Hall, 7401 North 32nd Street, Richland, MI 49083.

The Richland Township March Board of Review will meet on the following dates:

Organizational Meeting

Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at 8:30 am

Appeal Hearings

Tuesday, March 14, 2023, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm

Wednesday,  March 15, 2023, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm

The Board of Review will meet as many more days as deemed necessary to hear questions, protests, and to equalize the 2022 assessments. By board resolution, taxpayers are able to protest by letter, (including email), sent to Richland Township Office, 7401 North 32nd Street, Richland, MI 49083 or, provided protest is received prior to 5:00 pm on March 15, 2023.


The tentative ratios and the estimated multipliers for each class of real property and personal property for 2023 are as follows:

*Agricultural ..............52.81%....... 0.9468

*Commercial.............47.14%....... 1.0607

*Industrial.................44.55%......... 1.1224

*Residential..............44.97%......... 1.1119

*Personal Property...50.00%......... 1.0000

Tentative equalization factor of 1.0000 for all classes is expected after completion of Board of Review.

We’ve said it before and we’re saying it again, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has released a new National Broadband Map. Since high-speed internet is not available to nearly half a million homes in Michigan, we are continuing to urge every Michigander to check their home and business address on the preliminary broadband map to ensure it accurately reflects their level of internet access. Our office is working to challenge the map too, but it’s important for everyone across the state to know how to view and challenge the map.

Here’s how to access the FCC broadband map:

  1. Visit here, then type in an address and see if the reported coverage is accurate. You can access the site from a computer or a mobile device.
  2. Residents can submit a challenge by clicking “Location Challenge” if the location of their home or business is missing or incorrect, or “Availability Challenge” if the internet service information is incorrect.
  3. Residents should visit the website of any internet service provider that claims to serve their locat
